Background overview
Founded in 1864, Wrexham AFC is one of the world’s oldest and most recognisable football clubs. Following its return to the Football League, the club has embarked on a major redevelopment of the Racecourse Ground – including a new Kop stand and upgraded fan facilities designed to bring the stadium into a new era.
As part of this transformation, Wrexham wanted to enhance the match-day experience with modern LED video scoreboards that could serve as live information hubs and provide new opportunities for club partners. EcoVista was appointed directly by the club to design, engineer and install the new displays, working alongside sports technology consultant OMM.
Clients challenge
The project came with a demanding brief and almost no margin for delay. EcoVista had previously removed the existing Daktronics screen from the opposite end of the stadium at the end of the 2024/25 season, clearing the way for pitch works to begin.
Attention then turned to the new Kop end, where two large video scoreboards were required to flank the goal within an active construction zone. Space was restricted by hoardings and heavy site activity, while foundation depths were limited by the redevelopment taking place directly behind the structure.
With the first home fixture just days away, EcoVista had only two weeks from design sign-off to full completion – including foundation design, fabrication, installation and commissioning. Every element needed to be planned and executed with precision.

Our solution
EcoVista delivered a complete turnkey solution covering engineering design, steelwork fabrication, electrical integration, installation and commissioning. The two video scoreboards were repurposed from the club’s previous Daktronics display, aligning with Wrexham’s wider approach to reuse within the redevelopment programme.
To meet the demanding programme, EcoVista engineered a bespoke foundation solution designed to work within the restricted footprint of the construction zone. Foundations were poured on a Friday using an accelerated concrete mix and left to cure over a seven-day period.
Seven days later, the team returned to site to complete the main installation over a single weekend. Steel structures were erected, screens mounted and all cabling and integration completed within the tight access window. Final testing and commissioning were carried out immediately afterwards, ensuring the system was fully operational in time for the Tuesday night fixture.
Throughout the process, EcoVista worked closely with site contractors to coordinate activity safely and efficiently, allowing redevelopment works behind the Kop end to continue without interruption.
The
result
Delivered safely, on schedule and to specification, the project has transformed the view from the new Kop end and provided Wrexham supporters with a significant upgrade ahead of the stand’s full reopening.
The dual video scoreboards now serve as the visual centrepiece of the club’s redevelopment – enhancing fan engagement, supporting match-day operations and creating a premium platform for partners and sponsors.
Completed in just two weeks, the Wrexham project exemplifies EcoVista’s ability to combine engineering precision with rapid, reliable delivery under pressure.
